Silva's Growing Measurement Post

Question 1: What is the Pythagorean Theorem? You should use words, pictures, symbols and numerical examples.
The Pythagorean Theorem is a formula. This formula is used to calculate a side of a right triangle (either the hypotenuse or one of the legs). The formula is: a2 + b2 = c2
1. The altitude is 8 cm, the base is 6 cm, so what is the hypotenuse?

a2 + b2 = c2
82 + 62 = c2
64 + 36 = c2
c2 = 100 (find the square route)
c = 10 cm

2. The base is 16 cm, the hypotenuse is 65 cm, what is the altitude?

a2 + b2 = c2
a2 + 162 = 652
a2 + 256 = 4225
a2 = 4225 - 256
a2 = 3969 (find the square route)
a = 63 cm

Question 2: How do you find the surface area of right rectangular prism? You should use words, pictures, symbols and numerical examples.

Rectangular Prisoms are 3D rectangles. Some examples are:

This is my own rectangular prisom.

length- 5cm

width- 3cm

To find the surface area you have to use this formula:

SA- 2(lw) + 2(hw) + 2( lh)
SA- 2(5x3) + 2(4x3) + 2(5x4)
SA- 2(15) + 2(12) + 2(20)
SA- 30 + 24 + 40
SA- 94 cm2

Question 3: How do you find the surface area of a right cylinder? You should use words, pictures, symbols and numerical examples.

A right cylinder is a three-dimensional figure made up of the set of line segments parallel to a line through the two parallel planes and joining congruent circular bases in the two planes.

This is my own right cylinder.
radius- 5m

diameter- 10m

height- 15m

This is my own net.

This is how you find surface area you use this formula.

SA-2(3.14)(R2) + 2(3.14)HxR
SA-2(3.14)(25) + 2(3.14) 15x5
SA-6.28(25) + 6.28 (75)
SA-157 + 471
SA- 628 m2

Question 3: How do you find the surface area of a right cylinder? You should use words, pictures, symbols and numerical examples.

A right cylinder is a three-dimensional figure made up of the set of line segments parallel to a line through the two parallel planes and joining congruent circular bases in the two planes.

Formula: H=height of cylinder
B=area of base
C=circumference of the base
Volume=BH
Lateral surface area=HC
Total surface area=2B=HC

That how you find cylinder surface area.
SA: 2(3.14)(4 x4)+2(3.14)(4)(10)
=6.28 x 16+ 6.28 x 4
=100.28 + 251.2
= 351.48 cm2

Question4: What is a polygon and how do we classify one?

Irregular polygons have sides of differing lengths and angles of differing
measure. unless all the sides of the polygon are the same length and all
the angles are the same measure the polygon is said to be irregular.

If all the sides and all the angles of a polygon are equal the polygon is
said to be irregular

Question 1: What is the Pythagorean Theorem? You should use words, pictures, symbols and numerical examples.
The Pythagorean Theorem relates to the three sides of a right triangle. It states that c²=a²+b², C is the side that is opposite the right angle which is referred to as the hypotenuse. A and B are the sides that are adjacent to the right angle. In essence, the theorem simply stated is: the sum of the areas of two small squares equals the area of the large one.

Question 1: What is the Pythagorean Theorem? You should use words, pictures, symbols and numerical examples.
The Pythagorean Theorem is that you could find the hypothenus (c) on a right angle triangle by taking the height of the triangle (a) squared and add the base (b) squared. Take the sum and find the square root of it and that is how you find the hypothenus. A2+B2=C2

Question 2: How do you find the surface area of a right rectangular prism? You should use words, pictures, symbols and numerical examples
To find the surface area (SA) of a right rectangular prism you take times length (L) + hight (h) and multiply by 2 then you add L + width (w) multiplied by 2 then add width + length multiplied by 2.

2(L+W)+2(H+L)+2(H+W)

ex: Length = 10 Width = 15 Hight= 20

2(10+15)+2(15+20)+2(10+20)
70+70+60=SA
200=SA

Question 3: How do you find the surface area of a right cylinder? You should use words, pictures, symbols and numerical examples. SA= 2 pi R2 + 2pi Rh

To find the surface area of a cylindar you would have to imagin the cylindar unravaled. you would have to find the surface area of first the circles and then the rectangle.
TO find the circles' you take pi multiplied by the radius squared then multi;ply it by 2
Then you add the surface area of the rectangle. pi times the radius and the hight of the cylindar then multiply that by 2.
EX. Hight= 5cm
radius=2
3.14(pi)x 4= 12.56x2=25.12 +
3.14x2x5x2=62.8
add together and you get 87.92

(If you have a diameter you just divide it by 2 then you get your radius)

Question 4: What is a polygon and how do we classify one?

A polygon is a shape with many closed line segments in a complete circuit.

There are 4 types of polygons: regular, equiangular, irregular and equilateral .

Regular: all lines are equal and all sides are the same length. A regular polygon is also both a equiangular and a equilateral polygon.

Irregular: A polygon where the angles and sides are unequal.

Equiangular: All the angles in the polygon are equal.

Equilateral: All the sides in the polygon are equal.

Question 4: What is a polygon and how do we classify one?

Polygons are 2-D shapes made out of line segments. There are two different types of polygons.

The first type of polygons are regular polygons. They are shapes that don't cross over them selves, the sides are the same lengths and they have the same angles.

The second type of polygons are the irregular polygons. They are shapes that have different lengths of sides and have different angles.
